Capt. Brian first learned to tie flies at the age of 16 in a
high school class called, “Angler’s Tech”. Imagine that in a
public school today. Based on an English curriculum with fly
tying at the top of the list armed with his very first
pattern, the proverbial Woolley Bugger, he ventured forth
with a newly self acquired blue light special K-Mart fly rod
and caught his first fish on a fly. The CARP! That was all
it took and the fire was lit. From that point forward his
focus was on the fish.

Captain Brian Meszaros
Duty, honor and country called at 18 and he entered the U.S.
Army ending up with 7th Special Forces in Central America
where he received an education in “fishing the salt”.
Needless to say after returning home the gears were
turning…but first College was calling. After graduation
Capt. Brian entered the Fire Service and also began his full
time guide service in 1992. Being an innovator in the sport
he became the original fly fishing & light tackle guide on
Lake St. Clair developing the “St. Clair Slam” and
tactics/techniques in the pursuit of warm water species
indicative of the region. His clients, who have 6 IGFA World
records and 100’s of Michigan Master Angler Awards, come
from all backgrounds and skill levels.

Summer Fun
Capt. Brian is considered an expert by many on warm water
fisheries and you may have seen him speaking at a fly
fishing show somewhere in the Midwest or on one of the
regional outdoor television shows. He has also appeared in
many fly fishing periodicals and most recently in the
popular Muskie on The Fly book. Recently Capt. Brian and his
operation, Great Lakes Fly
Fishing LLC was honored as 1 of
the top 100 fly fishing destinations in the world by
American Angler Magazine. He is often asked what his
favorite fish is, to find that answer all you need to do is
take a look at his logo…

Great Lakes Fly Fishing
Capt. Brian runs his operation as a family business with his
crew of Cindy his wife, their children Noah and Autumn,
(Noah is a fishing & hunting machine at 10, look out!) and
their black English Lab, Vader; their waterfowl retrieving
beast. When not chasing the finned creatures of Lake St.
Clair, his desire and passion pulls him to sit in a frigid
layout boat or duck blind with friends, a good cup of hot
coffee and the wet dog in pursuit of fast winged creatures
of the colorful feathery type that migrate through our
fabled Great Lakes region.
