The Winston Nexus fly rods are designed with an all-graphite rod blank. The rod blank is black with matching guide wraps. The action on the Nexus rod is rated as “Fast”. Some people have found that this family of rods casts best when “overlined” by 1-weight, i.e. a 6-wt line on a 5-wt rod. Others find that using a short head line made the rod cast very well for them.

These rods have been discontinued by Winston for 2018.

The R.L. Winston Rod Company has been in existence since 1929 when Robert Winther and Lew Stoner bought the Western Rod Company of San Francisco. The name Winston came from a consolidation of their last names. The company has had a number of ownership changes. During the 1970’s the company was owned by Tom Morgan and Glen Brackett. They moved the company to its present day location of Twin Bridges, Montana. In 1991 the current owner, David Ondaatje bought the company. The BIIIx series of rods is the latest technology from Winston. Winston continues its progress and has become one of the major fly rod producers in America.
